ENFIELD —
In one more step toward a new fire station, a public hearing is scheduled for July 6 to allow residents to comment on giving the Thompsonville Fire Department permission to use a swath of municipal land when the new station is built. The 6:50 p.m. hearing is at town hall.
The land, now an electrical and sewer easement, would be at the side of the new station. While the building would have three main bays facing Pearl Street, there would be two bays on the side, facing Asnuntuck Street, for use by non-emergency vehicles. Fire officials say the current fire station is outdated and far too small. In exchange for permission to access the easement, the department intends to make improvements to the municipal parking lot, said Assistant Fire Chief Paul A. Nabors Jr. These would include shrubs, ornamental light poles and other “aesthetically pleasing” touches, he said.
